Nanotechnology is an emerging driver for innovation in Alberta’s knowledge-based industry. The Calgary nanoNexus is aiming to be a bridge between academia and industry. This networking evening serves as a platform for connections to be formed, relationships to be built, partnerships to be made, and collaborations to be started. Nanotechnology applications will be identified and highlighted with a focus on commercialization and entrepreneurship. The nanotechnology community coming together in one place includes industry professionals, governmental stakeholders, and students and academics from the University of Calgary and other institutions in Alberta. This year, our main body sponsor is Alberta Innovates.

For our 2019 Calgary nanoNexus (see details below), we have reserved attendance from the following companies and organizations: Alberta Innovates, Summit Nanotech, Mitacs, University of Calgary Faculty of Science, ThermoFisher Scientific, Alberta WaterNEXT, Innovate Calgary, TSGI corporation, University of Calgary Career Services, The Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking, and CoDesign Technologies.

An exciting addition to this year's event is the Panel Discussion on the topic "From lab to fab: where are we in 2019?". Find out everything you need to know about how to bring lab-tested ideas out into the real world, what are the challenges and how to overcome them, and how does one know their idea is worth commercializing from our panelists: Michael Kerr (Alberta Innovates), Dr. Nashaat Nassar (Chemical and Petroleum Engineering), Shae Coburn (Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking), Mike Dixon (CTO - WaterNEXT), and Jason Hendrick (CTO - SummitNanotech).

We invite you to join us for a networking night dedicated to creating connections between all players with interest in the nanotechnology sector from academia, industry, and startups in the province of Alberta, over hors-d’oeuvres and spirits!

Keynote speaker: David Cramb

Professor, Head of Department of Chemistry, Adjunct Professor to the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Director of the Nanoscience Program, University of Calgary. PhD Chemistry from UBC (1990). Joined the University of Calgary in 1997.

Cramb studies the behavior nanoparticles for biomedical applications. Using fluorescence and molecular scale imaging technology, nanoparticles are assessed for therapeutic potential and tracked for toxicological risk factors in avian and aquatic species. His group has developed sophisticated fluorescence spectroscopy technology that is unique in the world. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Chemical Society and was awarded the Thermo-Fisher Prize in Spectroscopy (2010). Cramb has published over sixty manuscripts holds grants from NSERC, CIHR and the Alberta government. He has given over 70 invited talks on Nanoscience in the past 5 years. He teaches in the CHEM, NANS and ASHA programs and has a passion for creativity in science education.
